Who told you it was hives? Are you from USA? This is an American word for what us Brits call Urticaria or allergy rash. If you have a very itchy blotchy rash that may well be what you have. By all means try over the counter antihistamine, but if it does not resolve see your GP.

I have had hives before. It can be brought on by hayfever, food allergies such as red wine, and by wearing metal watches etc.Antihistamines are the best thing to take to get rid of it but if you have a rash due to a metal watch you can use a hydrocortisone cream which you can get from any chemist.I found piriton syrup was good but it can make you drowsy.I would say a week is normal, and depends on what medication you have taken for it.

Hives are usually caused by an allergic reaction, have you changed your wash powder or body soap etc. If you have then stop using it. Avoid scratching as this will only make it worse. If possible take an antihistamine and apply some calomile lotion to ease the itch.

Yes Stacey. I suffered for years with Hives (its an
allergy to something) and you can get it in mild
form or severe.
You need antihistamine these will help with swelling
and itchiness. But it does take a time to clear.
I used to get it very severe when everywhere swoll
up (eyes, mouth, ears even in my throat) so I was
given steroid injections that made me well again.
Not to worry you but I had this condition for a few
years, then it suddenly stopped. Only to be replaced
with Hayfever. So - Antihistamines again. But please -
do to the doctor. Good Luck. Hope you're feeling better
soon.

you could be having a reaction to something...laundry detergant or maybe your nerves...hives are normal. try some benadryl or maybe some hydracortizone cream(depending on size and area or rash) if this rash doesnt clear soon i'd see a dr. the rash could be a symptom of something else. good luck.

I suspect this might be an allergy - perhaps to a new washing powder or soap? Or even to something you've eaten. If you can't think of a probable culprit which you can avoid, I would recommend having it checked out by your doctor.
