Each and every dog has it's own personality and you can't predict that it won't have separation anxiety.
If it's a puppy that you are planning to get, you should start right away with training to lessen the chances of that happening.
Talk to an Animal Behavioral Specialist and see what is the best way to go about it.
ADD:
I have 3 Pomeranian...2 are just fine and one has some separation anxiety. I make sure there is nothing within his reach when I'm gone. I don't crate none of my dogs or gate them to a certain room. I'm probably asking for trouble, but the dog that is having trouble is 10 years old, and he hasn't gone for the furniture yet!

I have 5 children ranging in age from 10 to my 14 mth old twins. It was very important for me to get the right dog. After researching for a year, I decided on the newfoundland. They have wonderful temperments, and are pretty laid back. They also do well in an apartment or with a small yard provided they do get daily exercise. I know that their size is not for everyone though. My advice is to research the different breeds to get the temperment and care requirements that fit your lifestyle. If you don't want a dog with an attitude, don't get a terrier. If you don't want to do a lot of exercise, don't get a hunting or sporting breed. The main thing is to do your homework and know what you want before buying a dog. I also reccommend purebreds. I have nothing against a mixed dog, but with a purebred you know the basics of what to expect out of that breed.

There's no such thing as an easy care dog, sure some are easier than others but all breeds and all dogs can become mischevious and destructive if left alone without proper outlets to relieve boredom and appropriate human-lead exercise. Having said that, it would be best to adopt an older dog from a shelter who has some training rather than a puppy as you won't be able to train it whilst you're at work. Talk to the shelter staff, they will be able to help you with a dog that's right for your circumstances and lifestyle and who can fit in with your energy levels.
Iif you are prepared to hire a dog walker to go in whilst you're at work, that could help the situation, but you need to give the dog activities to do while you're not there eg: sandpit to dig in, small pool to play in, rope hung from a tree. You need to make sure you don't get an escape artist who will disappear while you're at work. A busy dog is a happy and well behaved dog.
Good luck with your search!

We just got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is the best puppy I have ever had. VERY laid back and is doing VERY well with crate training. He is so lazy for a puppy!! He has only had two accidents in the house since we have had him, and he is super smart. Our vet recommended this breed for someone that wants a dog that is laid back and good with children. He won't be very large either. Good luck in finding your puppy!! You should research any breed you are considering very closely before making a choice! I know how you feel, it is like adding another child into the house!! After having this breed, I don't think I would go back to any other. From what I have heard, and read, this behavior is typical for the breed.

Hi, well it depends if you want small, medium or large breed ?
Do you live in a house or flat ?
Play on the web and do some research on dogs.
Remember, a dog is like a child, every-one NEEDS love and attention, there's lots of toys that you can get that will keep your dog busy during the day, or get 2 dogs.

go to the animal shelter and get a already grown, trained dog. They have all kinds to choose from. The person working there can help you.
