Every morning my cat has sleep in his eyes that i have to wipe away. Is this a sign of illness or anything to worry about? He is 15 weeks old and has just had his innoculations.

The innoculation was for cat flu, could it just be a side effect of that??? Thanks for advice so far

It could be a reaction to the shots if that's when you started noticing it. Some cats do get a innocuous 'dose' of cat flu after their injection until their immune system responds. Certain breeds such as those with persian lines in their ancestry can tend to have weepy eyes which isn't a problem, it's just one of the cons of the face shape and the short nose. If it doesn't appear to be pus, and the eye isn't red or inflamed then I wouldn't worry, especially as it's not there 24/7 but if you're in doubt then call the vet and ask, it doesn't cost anything to ring and will give you peace of mind.

Well it may be nothing but it could also be a sign of illness or a reaction to the shot.

I've had cats all my life and from time to time every single one of them has had sleep in their eyes...that in itself isn't a problem.
BUT, if the kittens eyes are running all the time or the discharge from her eyes is yellow or green and sticky to the point that the kittens eyes are matted shut then you should take her to the Vet....runny, matted shut eyes can be a sign of feline herpes or an upper respiratory infection.

Just to be on the safe side I'd call the Vet and tell them what's going on, they may want you to bring kitty in so they can have a look at her eyes.

Good Luck

People are constantly freaking out on this website...my cat had "sleep" in his eyes every morning when he was a kitten....it wasn't the avian bird flu, or herpes, or anthrax like all the people are freakin' out about...sometimes they just get eye infections and a little antibiotics will clear it right up. My cat is mixed with a Persian, and he's got those big ol' eyes, thus allowing more opportunities for debris to get in there. Don't panic, just make a vet appt. for sometime this week. :)

My cat Mufasa does that the Vet said not to worry. It looks like she's crying, which made us love her all the more!!!!! The fluid was always clear when it looks cloudy or dries and cakes up. Time to see the Vet!!!

He could be ill or have allergies, don't take a chance and wait to see if he will get better, take him to see his Vet.
Hope this helps.

Call your vet. They would tell you what to use so you do not make it worse. Poor kitty!
