We have a 5 year old daughter who we have on a schedule that we follow every night. At 8pm she gets her bath, brushes her teeth, we read her a book and she lays down by 9pm. She comes into our room several times a night and is NEVER asleep until after 11:30. My husband and I are not getting adequate sleep, while she seems to need very little! She is up every morning around 6:00 am and does not take a nap during the day. We do not allow her to drink soft drinks except on Saturday and she does not eat a lot of sugar. We have no trouble laying her down and keeping her in bed (except her visit to our bed on ocassion) but she, in her words is, "just not sleepy mommy". I worry about her sleeping habits causing a problem when she starts Kindergarten in August. Any uggestions??

Lack of sleep in children can cause serious
health problems. If parents follow some simple
techniques for making their children sleep,
it can be avoided. I found useful information

I would talk to her pediatrician first off. I have 5 kids and for some reason they have never needed much sleep. They all stopped napping at age 1 and a couple of them will go to bed at midnight and get up at 6. I agree with more active during the day. I will say during baseball and soccer season my kids go to sleep earlier.

Run around. Go to the park on days she's not in preschool, and on days she is in preschool, take her out to do something afterwards if you can. Have you ever had a cat? It's sort of the same concept as you have to follow when they're a kitten to get them off their natural nocturnal clock and onto a human one: keep them as active as you can during the day, and then they'll sleep when you do.

wow some kids have more energy than others! My kids are on the same schedule basically there is 16 mos age difference and my son goes to sleep much earlier than my daughter and they wake at the same time! Seems she would be exhauted with that schedule e
even with NO EXERCISE! I would talk to the doctor and see what they think.

It sounds like she needs to be more physically active during the day. If she is tired, she will sleep. End of story.

Just give her a boring book to read & she'll be asleep before you even know.
