I'm always amazed at the divisions with people and how they criss-cross. Take two people, one man who is a Christian doesn't hardly speak to the LDS man...until football season rolls around and suddenly they are blood-brothers with their faces painted and supporting the same football team...and they both swear the opposing teams fans are rude...but not them. Then you have two women who go to Church together...then a political elections happens and one's a Rep and the other is a Dem...they can't believe how stupid the other is. Two sisters who both love their families and have much in common yet one wants aboration to be legal, the other doesn't, they won't speak to each other. The atheist neighbor who grew up with a man down the same street, who's a Catholic. They used to be best friends...but words were spoken between them and they both were offened...now they never speak to each other. Religious choices, sports, politics, moral views, are these the things that divide us?

Oh, absolutely I couldn't agree more, but I am fasicinated with it. I could never agree with a Jehovah's Witness but it wont stop me from talking to them and finding out about their opinions on certain situations.

I have a broad spectrum of listening to peoples opinions, taking what I agree on and leaving out what i disagree on. and just listen to what they have to say no matter how much I disagree, and if I take the time out to listen to your arguements, I expect them to listen to my arguements aswell.

I don't believe anything in life is Black and White, it's all varying shades of Grey, I find the things you have mentioned fascinating too. Although I must confess the more Christian a person claims to be invariable the nastier they are. Again it's all shades of Grey and I do know a couple of people who are Christian who are genuinely lovely souls.

Quite the contrary, I think that they unite us.
I'm Mormon (I'll use religion as my example) and it is my wonderful experiences with my church that joins people of my same beliefs together. It is only other people that hate us for that specific reason, that divides us as a human population. There would not be that division if one group did not hate the other. Otherwise, we would peacefully coexist. So really, your answer is that hate, not our differences, that drive us apart. (oh, and for future reference, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints, aka Mormons, is in fact a Christian religion)

I do find it fascinating. Such divisions and similarities, as well as more complex ones, are the best means we have to understanding ourselves, others, and the human condition. Conflict is as important as agreement, if not more informative.

Yes. If we were all the same it wouldn't be as interesting and we wouldn't have the opportunity to learn as much.

But we have to keep things in perspective. Because we have more in common than we have differences. And so those differences should not drive us apart.

Thank you for asking.
