It's one of the most dangerous cities in the country. It's not safe to walk at night in most parts of the city. NW DC is the most safe part of the city overall, and SE is the least safe.

Washington DC is NOT safe to walk at night. The nightclub area has muggings and shooting every night. Murders are up from last year. Robberies are up. Muggings are up. Drive-by shootings are happening even on residential streets.

What areas should be avoided? The whole city should be avoided at night.

any big city has it's dangers, and you should keep your eyes open... but in all the years I've been visiting DC I've never once felt uncomfortable. I'd stay away from SE unless needed, and I prefer to frequesnt NW areas, such as dupont circle, georgetown, the monuments, etc...

northwest, near roselyn is probably the safest, anywhere but southeast. DC isn't as bad as peple make it out to be, just be smart about who you talk to.

Write to or e-mail the new Chief there, as a lady of manners and hard work, she would probably tell you with a certain degree of accuracy.
