Anyone else NOT able to afford to go abroad this year on holiday?

I'd love to hear from you. I've only ever been abroard twice and have not been able to go for the last five years. Every time I manage to start saving, I have to use the money for some unexpected expense. While I can appreciate many of you have never been abroad, there is also an army of people who go religiously every year. Some even twice in a year!!

Tell me about it, I havent had a foreign holiday for about 10 years. As a single mum my budget doesnt stretch that far. I do get envious of people who have holidays, sometimes 3 or 4 a year but thats not going to help me, Its just life. Maybe my time will come.

I used to go religiously twice a year for 1 week each time, but last year due to money worries I never got away and really feel bad, but I have managed to book up for a week in May this year so am really looking forward to it, skint myself in the process, but I am going to enjoy it, as I don,t know when I will next get away. I feel if you are working you deserve a holiday

Haven't been abroad for 18 years. Unless you count crossing the border to England. In which case, I go abroad every week.

I've only been across the channel twice. I've never been anywhere really exotic. I long to have a month somewhere with warm, blue, sea and wonderful nature to explore. I guess I'll settle for home again.

I don't do the holiday thing anyway. I like the getting there and the getting back, it's the bit in between I can't stand but even if I loved holidays, I couldn't afford to go. Like a lot of other people, I work ... hard ... I think it's going to be about 250 hours this month and I hardly see any of it.

My luxuries are unlimited access to Blockbuster rentals, another DVD rental but that's only two DVDs a month and I subscribe to BBC Focus, that's it for me.

Never mind holidays, I can't afford to go to the town that often.

I am DYING to get out of this place and go on holiday.....but just like most britons, i cant afford it. Too many unexpected bills. Theres something i do, which you could also try to make you feel good- and for a day, feel like you can actually afford to go on holiday every year.
I go through websites 'looking' for holiday destinations and deals. I even visit travel agents, sit down and chat about a destination i 'intend' to travel to.Even go through quotes and all. Its amazing how It makes me feel. I get on a high making all these 'arrangements'. At least you can get to feel like the minority that can afford to get away.

I go abroad religious every year, most time once sometimes even twice, like last year I went to Barbados then Dominica Republic...

..This year will be my 1st year without a holiday, as i am getting married abroad in 2008, and need all the money I have.. really gutted... but its for a good cause! lol

No, but I'm retired to Chiang Mai, Thailand, so I can't complain. Don't know your situation, but could a stint in Peace Corps be feasible?
Taking 2 years of your life is not a vacation, but feedback is almost universal that this would be have the most exciting, rewarding and career deciding choice you could make.
Heck, just check it out. I've worked with many PCS and found the experience mutually rewarding.

Hi, I can not really afford to go abroad on holiday this year, but I shall go any way. Stick it on the plastic then cut up the card and pay after.

Hi, don't despair, I live abroad and live for getting home on visits, why don't you try to get a last minute package deal, I'm sure you can pick up a bargain somewhere, or even try to get away somewhere in the UK, there are some lovely places to visit, but we never appreciate them, whatever you do, hope you have fun.

I never went as a child as my parents weren't rich but since I worked hard and have a good job I am able to take 2 holidays this year. I feel everyone deserves at least 1 holiday a year if they work hard.
