Wow! I'm almost looking in a mirror! Our daughter will be 21 months when I'm due to have the baby I'm pregnant with now.

We've decided that we're not going to rush our daughter into a "big girl" bed before she's ready. She actually slept in our room for a while and we will be keeping the new baby in our room for a while as well. There are going to be some big changes coming for our daughter when the new baby arrives. We don't want to make the transition any more difficult than it is. If we have to, we plan on buying a second crib for the new baby if he or she is ready to move into the nursery before our daughter is ready to move into a big girl bed.

My advice? Don't rush it. Let your daughter move at her natural pace. She will have a lot to adjust to when the new baby gets here. Letting her develop at her own pace will help ease the transition from baby of the family to big sister.

Good luck and congratulations!

My daughter was just over 12months when we moved her into a single bed(obviously with a removable side guard).

She had been walking from about 11 months though so she was quite adept on her feet and more than capable of getting in and out.

I put my eldest son(now 7) into a single bed at about the same age too and as long as you have the rail to stop them rolling out in their sleep and a gate on the door so that they can't go wandering the house if they wake up you will probably have very few problems-and none of the tantrums that friends of mine had when they swopped them over at 2yrs+.

Congratulations on your pregnancy-my daughter and son are a year and 4 days apart (21 months and 9 months now) and while I won't say it's been easy it's worth every minute-and there is absolutely no sibling rivalry.

Good luck!

I am in the same situation. My mum said to move her into a bed when she starts to climb out of her cot but I have decided to move her to a bed at the start of next month, I would do it sooner but that is the earliest that I can get the bed delivered. I have a safety gate for her room and I am mooving all of the little things that might be dangerous or distracting at bed time just incase she gets out of bed to play and I have got those soft rails to put on the bed so she cant fall out and hurt herself.

Good luck, it should be fun! lol

my son was 2 and a half when my baby was due,, he was still in the cot and about a month b4 i was due i started putting him in a bed, with a side rail on it, he liked the bed, and when the baby came and he saw her in his cot he tried many times to climb in, so i had to b careful and always shut the bedroom door when she was asleep, so start giving her naps in the bed now, just so u dont have a hard time later, good luck

do it soon or she will feel that she has lost her bed and her parents at the same time. make her feel like she is a 'big girl' now........do big girl things. real bed, no bottle, real food, and using the restroom and out of diapers. my children were 16 months apart. you will go through at least 6 months of insanity, but this too shall pass. if you are going to have more than one child have them close together so they will be good friends.
