She can catch pneumonia if you don't dry her properly after a bath, but that has nothing to do with her being on heat.
Before you bath her, comb her through thouroughly. If you bath her with loose hair in her coat, it will form a layer of felt and you could end up having to have her clipped!
Use a mild shampoo such as baby bath, put some in a plastic jug and dilute with warm water. Pour that over her rather than putting neat shampoo on her fur.
Rinse her well, use warm water from a shower not the hosepipe, its too cold.
Stroke her dry, don't rub her as it can form mats in her fur. Then keep her warm indoors and give her some dry towels on her bed to soak up the damp.
You can also use a hairdryer on a cool setting once you've got her used to the noise.

Well all I can say to that is there must an awful lot of women walking round with pnuemonia. I think someone is taking the p**s out of you. Anyway isnt it a virus and cant be caught from bathing just like you cant get a cold from swimming in cold water. Old wives tale. Tale forgive the pun, none intended.

That's not true however you might want to wait until her season is finished so she is nice and fresh and the scent of her season can be removed totally. When I don't want to bath my Akita I use wipes that I get from Pets at Home, a bit like baby wipes for dogs. These freshen him up a bit and clean up his white bits.

When you bath her make sure you brush her thoroughly before especially if she is starting to blow her coat. Use a proper dog shampoo, they do make one which is ideal for white dogs.

When you dry her make sure you do so thoroughly before she goes out. If you don't this can cause a hot spot which will irritate her and she will probably lose the fur from that area. Because of the length of time it takes to dry an Akita's coat naturally you will find a hairdryer will be invaluable if she can stand the noise.

Yes you can bath her, but I would wait until she's finished her season, then you can get rid of any lingering scent which makes her attractive to male dogs. Make sure you keep her out of draughts until she is completely dry - it can take over 24 hours for an Akita's coat to dry completely.

No, that is not true. Bath her by all means, but don't take her out until she's completely dry.

Thats not true.
You can bathe her anytime you want, but personally I wouldn't.
I wouldn't want dog blood all over myself.

It wont last long, just keep those little diaper things on her that you buy at the petstore.
