My son (20 months old) sleeps in his crib at home and slept in a pack 'n play when traveling. Well, he finally outgrew the weight limit on it, so I need to find some other sleep solution for him. Where do you put your children to sleep after they've outgrown the pack 'n play and would roll out of a "real" bed? Thanks.

When my daughter was too big for that and still too small for a normal bed, I just put a matress on the floor and surrounded it with pillows or blankets.

I would just use a cot matress or even lounge cushions if we were away from home or if there was no other alternative she would sleep in the bed with my husband and I.

At 20 months though it wont be long till he is big enough for a normal bed with a safety rail on the side. My daughter just turned two and we recently put her in a toddler bed - it has a built in rail but uses the cot matress. I look at it as a transitional bed because its lower to the ground and offers the comfort of the cot matress rather than the scariness of a completly new place to sleep.

It wont happen overnight that your son gets used to a new sleeping arrangement, but just be patient and just like sleeping through the night when he was a baby, he will get used to it.

Good Luck :o)

I would suggest an airmattress - maybe a full or a queen. Easy inflate, easy deflate and very portable - about the size of a sleeping bag. You can surround him with pillows.
We do this or sometimes if we get a king bed he just sleeps in the middle of us.

Sleeping bag on the floor. Just call it a slumber party!
