Muslim men may marry "believers of the book," meaning Muslims, Christians and Jews.

Muslim women may marry only Muslim men.

This may seem unbalanced, but it is meant to protect the woman from abuse at the ends of a non-Muslim man. I say it's irrelevant in 2007.

(Another reason, of course, is that Islam is passed by the father - therefore the child of a Muslim woman and non-Muslim man is not automatically Muslim, although he could be raised Muslim, and so long as he says the shahaada, would be)

There are many interpretations and for that reason you have the people of the religion professing their own opinions about right and wrong. Believe me, many wrongs do not make a right.

It is surely an ideal situation if a man and a woman of a similar faith get married. However, if both follow different faiths then some form of compromise must be made and a firm , amicable understanding reached.

I do believe that no religion should compel any of its followers to do anything but good.

It would be such a beautiful world !!!

wMuslim men can marry Jewish, Christian or Muslim women. If they marry a Christian or Jewish woman, that woman is NOT required to convert. I know, because I am married to a Muslim man. I am asked to respect his religion, but I am under NO PRESSURE to convert, now or ever.

Muslim women are expected only to marry Muslim men. If they marry outside their faith, that marriage is not considered valid in Islam. A Muslim woman can marry a non-Muslim man ONLY if he converts to Islam before they marry.

Muslim men can only marry Jews,Christians and Muslimah.

Muslimah can only marry a Muslim.

But scholars today agree that Muslim men CANNOT marry any non-Muslim women.WHY?

Because Muslim men are only allowed to marry Jews,Christians during one period during the time of Prophet Muhammad where Allah has not yet forbade Muslim to marry non-Muslim.

Men can marry whomever - muslims or non-muslims. But they must try and convert the woman.

Female muslims are forbidden in Islam to marry non-muslim men. If any female muslims DO marry a non-muslim, they are explicitly going against their religion (and could suffer death- leaving islam is punishable by death according to the Qur'an and hadith)
