I believe that the number of times the U.S. has been in a war is five, if I remember correctly from my history class: War of 1812, Mexican-American War, Spanish-American War, WWI, and WWII. There have been other "wars" such as Vietnam and Korea but those weren't technically wars because only the Congress has the power to declare war, not the President. By the way, the country has not been formed yet during the time of the Revolution.

Let's think back.....you've got the revolution....civial war...world war 1...world war 11...vietnam.....panama....and now the middle east.....that's all I can think of. War sucks.
