not a doctor but I think if a person is busy it is almost impossible to be depressed if the mind is always working towards a goal.

I think that one can get depressed because of financial problems, bad relationships, and long dark winter like where I live. Just about anything can cause depression.

The main cause of distress, pain, agony or depression is our will to enjoy.
When something does a work for which its not made then obviously there is bitter liking for it.
Similar is the case with us. We have not taken birth as humans to enjoy, but we want to. So for it we do things that we are not made then we will have to suffer for it, and so we do.

In a nutshell:
** stressful situations (death of loved one, job loss,, terminal illness, etc.
** Chemical imbalance- serotonin levels, norepinephrine and/or dopamine
** Physical condition- thyroid dysfunction, change in hormone levels, post-partum depresssion, etc
** A negative, hopeless view of oneself, life and the future
*** and let's not forget- immature and childish racists, sexists, mean people, idiots, those who want to hurt others, etc.

I know a good, natural way to fight depression is to minimize your intake of junk food and exercise.

a lot of underlying causes of depression, loss of love ones, suffering from disease especially terminal, failed relationship. frustrations in life.

any crisis, a death, loneliness, or could just be chemical and could take a lot less to trigger the depression

sadness,worthlessness.suicide,always wanting to sleep,dont want to be around ppl and feeling hopeless. If you have any of these symptoms please see a doctor or go to the nearest ER for help.
