scottish and newcastle who own the brewery that produces theakstons are one of the few that still use wooden barrels or did up until about 6 years ago when i came out of the trade.

there are companies that specialise in medieval weddings and feasts and have a groovy system that runs the beer from conventional modern barrels and out through the wooden fronts of old barrels so it looks like its coming from the barrels. wine can be poured from jugs and ciders and perrys the same. all you realy need is buxsom wenches(meaning pretty girl in anglo saxon not anything derogatory)who can serve the beer even for a paying bar this has worked well for me in the trade several times and i think we made more money that way. at least with wenches you can have the barrels in another room and not worry about them at all. sell jugs and not pints this works better and means the girls aren`t run off their feet. serve cola and fizzy fromthebottle at the table and pack the bottles in ice.

search the internet they are fairly speciallised companies so make themselves easy to find. also try contacting the lorian trust they do a big event everyyear and have a local pub come to do the bar and they are well set up for the job so they may well pass on details again search google and they`ll pop up

good luck

Well you certainly won't buy ale. That was an unhopped beverage & hasn't been made commercially since I don't know when! The word is often used to describe beer in modern times, but ale it's not!!

Go to the attached and search for local suppliers - there's loads of breweries that do ale/beer. Not so sure about wine though - sorry.
