Eventually with your dog you are meant to wean them off the treats. I want to know the specific way to do this. Please give lots of detail.

If you're using treats to reward your dog for doing tricks or commands (like sitting for example) you need to turn yourself into a "slot machine"

Instead of giving your dog a treat every time they do a command successfully, give it every other time, then give it every 3rd time, and keep spacing it out. Eventually you'll give it just randomly (like a slot machine) and your dog will still do the command in the hopes that it will get a treat.

As you give treats less and less, you'll be able to stop completely. Instead of giving treats, give lots of love and praise.

Good luck!

Just give them less each day and don't give in to their whining. Treats are just that, treats not snacks. I give my dogs a treat every few days and they go nuts when they get them.

we gave our puppy a small treat every time he went pee/poop outside, when we were crate-training him. then we only did it when he pooped. now sometimes he gets one, sometimes he doesn't. and he's fine with it. remember, you are the owner.
