After 5 days of the flu he probably isn't strong enough to fight you. Take him to the doctor... if not the ER.

I hope that he is not dehydrated. My husband never seems to want to keep the liquids going down, and does get dehydrated. This can cause a whole new realm of problems. Your husband really does need to see a doctor. If he refuses, call your own doctor and ask what should be done.........do tell whatever doctor you can get, that your husband refuses to go to the doctor, and you really want to make sure he does get well, soon. Give your husband Propel mineral water, in a flavor he does like, and keep pushing soups down him. He probably doesn't want to eat anything, but, he needs to. The worst part about being really ill is that 'we' don't usually want to get out of bed to go to a doctor! If your husband is dehydrated, and I can only imagine he is, by now, he truly needs to get to the doctor or ER to get the fluids back into his body. An I.V. is necessary, I would guess, by now. Is your husband afraid of shots...........needles? It will be a needle that he will need to have to get the I.V. into him. Try hard to get him to the doctor. He's asking for pneumonia, if nothing else.

Many people mistake having a bad cold for influenza. True flu can last around 2 weeks with symptoms such as aching muscles, extreme fatigue, bad headache, fever, malaise, weakness, sore throat, sweating, chills, hot flushes & sinus pain. I would reccomend your husband rests completely & drinks plenty of fluids & pain killers; soup is the best thing to eat at the moment. If he starts to expereince symptoms such as shortness of breath, faintness or produces a coloured phlem then it is best to consult a doctor. Having said that if he is 60 or over it's probably best to consult a doctor anyway.

If he's holding his own, then he's about average for five days into the flu. If you see that he's weakening, then forget the doctor, and call 911; most people won't fight paramedics when it comes to severe illness.
