I am a Catholic.
I think (my opinion) that the great number of these people are ill and, in a bid for attention, hurt themselves. My explanation for why they wound themselves in the historically (loosely used) inaccurate part of the body: these are ill-educated and more than likely, disadvantaged people. They don't know any better.
There may have been a few genuine cases of stigmata. There was a priest called Padre Peo, who was neither uneducated nor celebrity-seeking, though he could have had a mental illness. I don't know. I neither believe nor disbelieve in his case. It doesn't impact on me. I mean no offense to any who revere the man as a saint.
I don't know. I sure could be wrong. But, this is my answer and I'm sticking to it.

Because for a very long time every image of Christ on the cross showed it done through the hands,so when delusional people self mutilated themselves and claimed the stigmata that's how they did it. There was a very interesting thing I once saw which showed how after it became more common knowledge of proper crucifixion there were suddenly a spat of "stigmata" cases done through the wrists. Stigmata cases are severely disturbed people who are desparately in need of mental health care.

Wrists - it replaced into the standard sort of Roman crucifixion - there's a channel that a huge nail can wade with the aid of it is sturdy adequate to assist the load of a physique with out having to tie the physique. Romans might crucify hundreds in an afternoon - they found the undemanding thank you to get the job achieved. putting the nail in the palms, the physique tears for the period of the flesh and the physique drops. Stigmata is a devotional present and is no longer the re-advent of the form.

Good question, that is something which I have wondered. However, I think a true stigmata does produce blood from the wrists.

Why does it only affect the catholics? I don't believe in the Stigmata as being from God, I believe that it is demon possession. Why would god hurt you? Only Satan would do that.

Why do "stigmatics" stop exhibiting those "signs" when they leave the false religion of Catholicism???

It's because many are self inflicted albeit cleverly....there are even some catholics that go so far as to have themselves
nailed to a cross... strange..I know. these are just a few of the "signs" and "wonders" that the Beast of Catholicism incites.
