The words themselves are synonyms, and so are interchangeable.
Though, personally, I am always looking for both in a person. Silly isn't it?
If I had to try to go against the logic of this, I would say that faithfulness applies more to a mental picture of a spiritual connection. While loyalty might be a spiritual element of a certain mind-set.
Or I could be shoveling something.....hope this helps anyways.....

Loyalty can be tainted but faithfulness is pure. In its true sense, loyalty is a good thing and is about exclusion. If I choose only to focus on one religion, that is about loyalty, since it involves honor and honesty. Faithfulness is about dedication to the relationship. The two really go together. You can be loyal to your sister, but more faithful and dedicated to your father.

No country can be well governed unless its citizens as a body keep religiously before their minds that they are the guardians of the law and that the law officers are only the machinery for its execution, nothing more.
