my vet told me that my labrador puppies are mixed breed, because of there color.. i have a black labrador, he has a small white spot on his chest and small white hairs on his fingers on his feets. while my yellow labrador has a white combining with little bit spot of yellow. they really look like a labrador but my vet told me that a labrador has a solid color, like a black has a solid black coat, a yellow is a solid yellow to light yellow coat. i dont know how to see if they are pure. they have no papers. thanks in advance for the answers.

W no papers, impossible to tell for sure. You should ask the breeder if the parents do have papers.

Purebred Labs are solid color. A badly bred lab from a backyard breeder or puppy mill may have spots though.

If they are mutts.... would you love them any less? after all, that is what really matters!

They are very likely mixed.

First, the vet’s not just telling you they’re mutts to make you mad or play a joke on you. Your vet has probably seen hundreds of labs in his/her career, and can probably spot a mix from a mile away.

Second, I have never seen a pure lab with more than one color on its body. Of course, I haven’t seen all the labs in the world, so they may exist, but its not something I’ve ever heard of.

If there are no papers and you have no way of seeing the parents, you will most likely never ever know for sure. There's nothing like a DNA test or anything that will tell you if both parents are the same breed. There is no sure way to tell without papers.

From the AKC Website:

The Labrador Retriever coat colors are black, yellow and chocolate. Any other color or a combination of colors is a disqualification. A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable. White hairs from aging or scarring are not to be misinterpreted as brindling. Black--Blacks are all black. A black with brindle markings or a black with tan markings is a disqualification. Yellow--Yellows may range in color from fox-red to light cream, with variations in shading on the ears, back, and underparts of the dog. Chocolate--Chocolates can vary in shade from light to dark chocolate. Chocolate with brindle or tan markings is a disqualification.

Without a pedigree and registration from a legit registry there is no way of knowing 100% for sure if they are purebred or not.
Some illbred purebred Labs do have a spot of white. This is not desired and is a disqualification. This type of fault is seen in irresponsible breeding.

Wbbed feet will not tell you if the dog is a purebred Lab or not since most dog breeds do have webbed feet to some extent.

Purebred or not simply love them and enjoy them.

Your vet is right, labs have a full solid color of coat. I have two black lab mixes and they way we knew they were mixes when we got them were, one has a salt/pepper chest with the same on his paws and the other has a full white chest. If they are mixed you may have to wait until they are full grown to see what else they are mixed with, you'll have to tell by characteristics.

It's considered VERY undesirable for a lab to have any white (the ducks are more prone to spot a dog with white) so this color mark is excedingly rare but does happen occasionally..... You could have two of those undesirably maked labs, but couple that with lack of papers & well my suspition light would be on too....

That is not always true that it will have solid color. My Vet told me that depending on what color the parents are they could be mixxed colors. My Vet said that a way to tell if it is purebred or not is to check it's paws and see if they have webbed paws if so they are more then likely purebred. I am not sure if they are any other tricks right now but ofcourse it shouldn't matter as long as you love the dog.

You can't know for certain unless they have papers. It doesn't sound like they are pure though.
