My daughter is 4 weeks old. She eats 4 oz milk every 3-4 hrs. She weighed 6 lbs 13 oz when she was born she now weighs 9 lbs 4 oz. Im worried about her eating too much. I know alot of babies are fat but I dont want her to keep it on. My cousins son is 4 and severly over weight. Is it wrong to want my child to be healthy and not be bullied. i guess i feel like when she wants alot of food then later on she will want to eat and eat and she will learn hey if I cry mom will give it too me.

Im not gonna starve her. Its not that I want her to be skinny. I just want her to be healthy. My parents never cared what we ate as a child and I want her to start young being healthy.

My daughter was 8lb 4oz at birth and weighed 14lb at her 2 mo check up. She was eating about the same amount and I felt (and feel currently) the same about not wanting her to be overweight. Your pediatrician will tell you if shes eating too much. My daughter is 8 months old now and starting to thin out from growing and moving around more(starting to crawl, rolling all the time, etc). It sounds like you're doing a great job.

Remember, all kids are going to be different. Check out an article I read in the new April 2007 Parents magazine, "Which baby is 10 months old?". It is trying to illustrate for parents that a bunch of babys all look completely different and are at different developmental areas but arethe same age!

Babies gain weight fast in their first year then it starts slowing down. She is eating the right amount at the right amount of time. If you are really concerned about this then talk to her doctor. You shouldn't worry about it right now. When she starts eating table food just give her healthy options. That's when you need to start worrying about her eating habits. Formula digests fast and breast milk digests even faster. It isn't the same as table food so she will be eating more often. She will also go through times when she won't hardly eat at all for days at a time then she'll act like she can't get enough. It's just growth spurts.

I think that you are thinking too far into the future. I demand fed both my children, and both were a good healthy weight, you baby isn't by any stretch of the mark "over weight". Babies need that extra weight as reserve, if they get sick , they do not have the immune system that a grown child (4 to 11 years) have and they need that "fat" store just in case they get sick. Keep in mind also that children's eating habits change all the time, and they sometimes eat more than they normally would.

If you have any real concerns you need to contact your health care professional.

My son weighed 9lbs 2 oz at birth and now @ 6 months weighs just over 16lbs. Your genetics obviously will have something to do with your daughter's weight when she gets older, but as she grows and becomes more mobile she should start to even out. My friend's son was really chubby when he was a baby, but as he grew and started crawling and then walking he started to thin out. As for when she gets older set a good example by eating healthy meals yourself and offer her a variety of fruits and veggies.

At this age, babies gain between .5 and 1 ounces per day. So, she is right on track.

Yes, it isn't good to be concerned about her being overweight right now. If you limit her food and don't provide her with what she needs she will not learn to trust her body to know when she is full or needs more. Simply choose healthy foods for her to eat as she becomes a toddler and continue those good choices as she grows.

a baby 0-6months should gain about 4-8 ounces a week. do the math by just looking it seems you are in the clear, but that your baby is gaining the maximum weight each week, if you are extremely worried about talk to your doctor. and like the other girls said, dont put you infant on a diet. it is better for her to be chubby than under weight and sickly

a baby needs to eat as much as they want or you may risk giving her brain damage. They need to grow a lot in the first year. DO NOT LIMIT HER FOOD. Save this for when you introduce junk food. If it is healthy foods then give her what she wants later on. Kids actually need some fats in their diets to help them grow. You will end up screwing your kid up for life if you limit the food. Babies regulate themselves perfectly for what they need. It is when they are older and you give them all the junk food they want and sit them in front of a TV that problems begin.

dont put her on a diet yet, my baby is breastfeeding and she was born 8lb 5 and at 4 weeks went to 10lb 13oz,which is around the same gain as yours, they r better off chubby that is a good thing they r healthy, even the next 4 weeks mine put on over 2lb again, it will eventually slow down, god bless, and enjoy the rolls of fat, hehe

She is very cute. I wouldn't worry about it. You definitely don't want to feed her any less than she needs. Babies know when they need to eat and it could slow her brain development to put her on a diet.
