Windows Xp Media Center is well and trully better. If you run both give me your opinion. I run Home and Media Center And Media Center is obvoiously better, But whatabout PROFFESIONAL!!!

Just another point. I have also never had a prob with XP xcept 1 which is yet to Be explained. also before you say proffesional, look at a computer magazine. Look at the prices. If any of you dont know, the ony real difference is Media centers newer and faster, and has a program called Media Center. It does the same as Media Player but with a new format, and you can plug an aerial in and watch tv with it

Ok everyone, all you're answers are great. Id just like to inform you of 1 thing (or remind you :)) If you have ever seen on a TV show how pple are pluggin in a computer to TV and viewing photos, slideshows and Wirelessly Sending photos from a camera to a computer to a tv, then that was Likely to be a windows media center computer. Also if you look at the differences between Vista Basic And Premium you will notice that 2 of the main differences are the fact you can watch TV (through the program Media center) ans the fact that the computer HAS media Center. Those, other than the new "aero" desktop styling, are probably 2 of the biggest differences

Windows Vista. It is the best and the most reliable windows yet.It fixes its errors automatically without you even knowing. It also indicates if your CD or DVD drives or any other hardware is not responding. It does not hang up.It is even better than Windows XP media centre edition.

Well of all the home versions I have used (and I have used from Window 3.1 to Windows XP) Windows XP home is the best. I have never used Media Center mostly because it is geared towards media play back which I seldom do, but it would certainly be something I would look at if I was going to do something like an entertainment system and for that purpose it, or just counting overal features it would be the "best". The pain of it is just that Microsoft never made a general release of it, it was released geared to only hardware that was intended to support it, but that can be a good thing if you have that hardware.

As for Vista I don't like it because it isn't stable enough for me at this point and I can do all I want on XP without the extra load. I'm sure that will change in the future.

As for XP Professional against Home. Well outside of a network that uses domains, which allows for better security (without a domain it really isn't much better then Home) the only real feature in Professional that Home doesn't have is encryption, which I use and like just because it is tied into the XP login so I don't have to enter passwords twice, but there are plenty of good programs that can be used on Home that do the same or better.

By the way I also have used Window NT 3.51, NT 4.0, 2000, 2000 Server, 2003 Server. And in general they are the same progression of Window 3.1 to Windows XP except targeted towards businesses. Windows 2003 Server tends to be a pain because it questions EVERY site and makes you put them in the trusted domains just to use them, but other then that it feels like XP.

Windows Media Center IS professional - with a few limitations - for example, it cannot join a domain. One of the best features of Pro (and I'm not sure it's available in Media Center) is the Remote Desktop capability. Otherwise, there's not much difference between Pro and Home and MCE except cost and the ability to join a server-based network (domain).

First Beta means it is still in testing and not the final version.
There are very few differences between Home and Professional.
The names are just what they say,Home is for Home users and professional is more aimed at business.thats what the small differences are, aimed at business.
Home is cheaper also,that helps.
I myself use Pro,but have worked on many home programs, and I'm sorry to say I have never heard of windowsxp Media center as a program.
Pro w/sp2 can be a pain at times, like you should always have two names with Administrative power, because on occasion it likes to lose your name to sign in with and that is all sorts of fun getting through that one,you don't have to ever use the other but playing safe with windowsxp pro w/sp2,better safe than sorry.
