I really hope that somebody can help me with this today. 4 weeks ago i went to the dentist and i had a filling on a upper tooth on my right side. The day after my filling i started to get severe pain in the left hand side of mouth. This pain has progressed throughout the left side of my face and now i feel very severe pain in my left temple, left ear and throughout my left jaw and part of my throat. Can somebody please tell me if they have ever experience similar symptoms and if so what the treated was. Im at my witts end now and in constantly in pain.

Thanks!

A little update-
Just been to see my dentist and he cannot find any sign of infection or anything wrong my teeth to be causing me this much pain!He said he is sure the pain is not coming from my teeth so my only other option is the doctor who i went to about a week ago n he told me i had a little fluid build up in my ear but surely fluid cannot cause excruitiating pain like this!. Ive taken many pain killers and nothing is helping. I really dont know what to do anymore

Hi,

I am also experiencing the same symptoms as you!! OMG! And this pain in my jaw and ear is just horrible...well, i got my dental fillings on March 5th AND it's been about 2.5 weeks. The same side on which the fillings were done is the same side i'm experiencing this pain...my throat does bother me at times as well, and now, i feel some discomfort in my tongue as well.
I am going to the dentist today to get some xrays to check for infection...and then i'm getting a second opinion from a diff dentist tomorrow ! It's just a horrible pain...is yours getting better since your last visit to the dentist??

Please ring the dentist and state that this is an emergency. A normal filling should not hurt this much, especially this long afterwards. It is likely that you have an infection - is there a strange taste in your mouth on that side as well? Take ibuprofen (speak to the pharmacist before taking if you suffer from asthma though) as this will help to reduce the swelling that causes the pain as well as the pain relief, use this until you can get to see the dentist again. They will probably give you anti-biotics and keep an eye on it. Infections are common, get it looked at quickly though. Good luck.

You may have an infection go back to the Dentist.

It also sounds like you have TMJ, it is a disorder of the jaw joint. When you had your mouth open for a long time getting the filling done it could have aggravated your jaw joint. Take an anti-inflammatory like naproxen (Aleve). Take it easy with your jaw- do not chew gum. If this does not help go back to the Dentist. If it does help the next time you go tell the Dr you may have TMJ. I learned that I had TMJ when I went to the Dentist too, My mouth did not want to shut all the way, it was really sore and eventually the swelling went down. Good luck:)

You have an abscess in your jaw and gums - go back to your dentist IMMEDIATELY as you will now need some antibiotics and medication for pain relief. When swelling has subsided - in a few days time - Dentist may need to reopen the filling and flush out the remaining infection in it before replacing the filling again

Go back to the dentist - I had similar problems years ago and after many months excrutiating pain, despite return visits to the dentist, it was found that my dentist had damaged the tooth next to the one she was replacing a filling in, and had exposed the nerve. Cheeky sod charged me a fortune to remove the nerve and cap it - and its never been right since! Toothache is so painful - return to the dentist. Good luck and hope you soon feel better.

Your fine. Time is the only thing that will help this. Have a advil if the pain is that bad and put some ice on it. It will hurt for maybe another day or 2. But not as much. It should only hurt if you put pressure on it. Maybe sitting or touching it and you will feel it. If the pain is not from contact then go to a doctor and get it checked out.

It does sound as if it is in some way related to your visit to the dentist, so I would go back to them, as they can prescribe you antibiotics the same as the doctor can, that is if it is an infection, although I am not medical trained it does sound as if there is an infection there. Hope you get this sorted out soon Good luck

Hi chick! i really feel for you, toothache is the worst pain ever (after childbirth mind!) and it is so annoying.

Sounds like an abcess, only cured with antibiotics so i would advise you to go to your dentist and let them double check whats gone wrong. They will then prescribe something. For now though get round to your local chemist and buy a bottle of clove oil, its great and cheap (about £1) and numbs the pain extremely well and should give you a little break until you get to the dentist hun.

Good luck hope everythin goes well! x take care x

Some sugary fun probably got you. Seems like the all the teeth are delicate after getting the grind. Wait awhile and just drink water and usual stuff a little more and the pain should settle in. If not, review the teeth in the mirror. Emergency rooms can usually do something for you.

Did you call your dentist's office and let them know what's going on? I'm not a doctor but it sounds like you may be have some nerve damage. If the pain is over-whelming go to the emergency room they can probably give you some pain meds and refer you to a doctor who can help you. Oh and find another dentist.
