All I know is I have to pressure wash the wall and let it dry before I start painting. Is there anything else I should be aware of when I'm painting the exterior wall of my house?

I thought there was apsecial paint for painting asbestos siding. You may want to check with your paint store.

Are you sure it's asbestos? Or was it painted with Lead based paint before? Either way if you cannot afford a professional then make sure you wear a face mask and not breath the stuff. I don't know alot about it I only know it's bad for you so look up information on the internet and read as much as you can about it first to be on the safe side. Watch out for animals around it too. I'd like to know how it goes cause I have it in my rafters.

I looked on www.thisoldhouse.com and found someone who asked a similar question. Steve Thomas replied, "Asbestos is only dangerous only when fibers become detached and airborne. No method of preparing asbestos siding can involve disturbing the surface by sanding or scraping — even power washing. Ask yourself if it's time to replace the siding altogether — and never worry about asbestos problems again. We faced this problem on our Belmont House some years ago. "

It would probably be smart to use the thickest most sealing paint possible. Of course use all the protection mentioned.
I would say a plush roller would get it into all of the nooks and crannies.

Have fun, but protect yourself. Asbestos in the lungs is a killer.

if it IS asbestos siding, the only thing i would worry about is if it is loose or cracked. personally. i never saw one painted. but asbestos siding is more like transite board. it is harmless unless you break it or it crumbles. i have worked around it for years, but it ix xtill prudent to be cautios. i would rather see it covered with vinyl siding. to remove it is too expensive.. paint if you want, but be careful.
