unless you want to see your dog die a very uncomfortable death...please rush her to your vet.....I cannot give you specific advice without examing your dog physically...as I am a practicing vet...but by the symptoms you have described I can already tell you that they are life threatening

EDIT: I am not trying to be rude...just honest..I want what is best for your dog...I agree with Norty.. I believe that you are trying to do the best for her, or you would not have posted the question...if I didn't believe this ..I would not have posted an answer..it is evident that she NEEDS EMERGENCY HELP...

It's a bit strange that a Golden only had one puppy. They usually have between 3 and 12. After this litter, I definitely think that you should spay her. It's clear that you aren't a REPUTABLE (I didn't say RESPONSIBLE) breeder and therefore, really shouldn't have bred her in the first place. It may seem mean, but it's true.

It sounds as though she has still got a pup (or a few pups) inside her. Did you get an ultrasound done by the vet after she was mated (a few weeks after mating took place)? If not, that really should have been done.

I know that she needs immediate veterinary attention ASAP or she could pass away if there is a puppy still inside her. This can not only lead to death, but infections, cancers etc.

I definitely think that you care about your dog but unless she is registered, has been cleared for hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, heart disease and eye disease, has a champion title before her name and has come from good show lines - she should not have been bred.

Take her to the vet imediantly if you haven't already,it sounds as if your bi tch has had problems delivering and the rest of the pups could be stuck. To leave her 2 days with out medical help is irresponsible breeding and your more then likely to find that the other puppys have died.A healthy goldie should have between 8-10pups so having 1 is not normal. This would proberly explain the shaking as your bi tch is trying to give birth still.Hope everything go's well.

The number of puppies varies. It depends upon how many times she bred among other things. One of our girls had 12 one litter, 3 the next, 9 the next. It just depended on how often Poppa visited her.

However, something does not sound right here. Call your vet and get her in asap. He might even make a house call under the circumstances. But she needs to be checked out that all the pups are out.

take her to a vet immediately. She may have a retained placenta or even another puppy in there. One pup for a retriever is unusual so it is quite possible she has a dead puppy or two still inside her. Without immediate attention she could die.

Im finding it difficult to understand why you didnt call a vet immediately? Asking us here is not the answer, go to a vet. If she had lots of pups last time then the likelyhood is she will this time round, and having 2 days pass isnt good. Pups should be born at regular intervals.
Please take your dog to a vet.

I am also practicing vet...Please get her to a vet....as well..I cannot give advice without a physical exam....but this does sound life threatening...Like Lissa...not trying to be rude..but as vets we all have the best interest of your dog at heart...I am sure you want what is best for her or you would not have taken the time to post the question..so please ...you asked for advice and you were lucky enough to have two vets stop by. God Bless!

Vets soon as possible. She could have dead puppies and the placenta still inside her. This will cause septicaemia which is always fatal unless treated quickly.

go to the vet quick its unusual for a large dog to only have one pup she may have miscarried and still have some dead pups in her which can cause very seriuos problems if not treated quickly
