If the Gatso flashed, there are one of four reasons:
1. The speed limit is actually 30 and you were therefore speeding;
2. You were doing more than 40, and you misread your own speedo.
3. The Gatso is malfunctioning and flashing those doing under the limit
4. Another nearby car triggered it.

If 1 or 2 above, you are liable to a fine in due course, if the thing had film.
If 3 or 4, you will hear no more about it as the police will pick up the malfunction when the photos get churned out (as well a as the fact it was almost certainly out of film if it flashes everyone doing 35 in a 40).

It's an angonising couple of weeks to wait though, isn't it - to see what drops on the mat?

Call to the nearest police station and tell them - if it is malfunctioning, they will have had others complaining also. Maybe you'd better just check that it WAS a 40 zone, and not a 30 zone.
Good luck.

Also worth bearing in mind is the possibility that it flashed a car coming towards you on the other carriageway, some cameras seem very prone to this.

whats more likely is it has flashed somebpdy else and looked like it flashed you.
But on the off chance you get a summons or fine, then you should contest it and make them check the camera records and see if it was malfunctioning.

It explains how to contest it on the back of the fine
