She just turned 2, but has always shown an interest in music and a natural tendency to dance to music, even if it is just background music on a show. I want to encourage her to do this if she enjoys it, and give her something fun to do. Is 2 too young?

Dance class is very vague....there are toddler classes that are more of a movement to music that are a lot of fun for 2 year olds!!! Places like Gymboree or local community centers usually offer these classes. Sometimes they are called "dance samplers".

I would wait until 4-5 before enrolling in a real "dance class" such as ballet or tap. Even at this age it is still about exposure to dance instead of actually creating a logistical dance :)

I tell you what, there are few things as cute as a music and dance class for toddlers. VERY CUTE STUFF!!!

My 19 month old has always shown intrest in dancing and singing. I'm waiting until she's 2 1/2 or 3 to start her with dance classes though. I think that some children are born with an intrest, so I'll encourage her as long as she shows that she really likes it.

It can depend also on what type of dancing she wants to do but I would say 5 is the best age to start. It is also a very good form of excercising and when you are young it is a very exciting thing to do. Kids love performing and wearing costumes for concerts so it can probabaly also help with confidence. Getting older people can change the way they feel about dancing and they will either keep loving it or be getting bored of it.

There are often rhythmic gymnastics classes geared towards children aged 3-5. That would be a good step towards the world of dance, which is mostly available at the age of 5/6. Gymnastics is actually a fabulous starting point for all sports. My son will be joining this summer/fall, when he turns 3 :)

My 18th month old daughter has done the same thing since she was very little and I often think of this question myself. Check out your local dance schools and see what they have to offer. Many places have classes for toddlers and are good to get all of that energy out. You might see if they will allow you to try it out for a week or so and see how your daughter adjusts to it and go from there. If you don't think she is enjoying it like you hoped she would then just try again when she is older.

It is good for a child to start dancing as it helps them with coordination and to tell their left form their right and so on. I would say at about 4-5 years, that when i started dancing. At the age of 2 children are still at the bubbly age where any tpe of beat is cool to bounce and move their heads to because everything is still new to the child. They are experiencing their new environment. I think it is really great that your child has i interest in dancing and that it is a good thing you want her to dance.

Yes, way too young.
She won't get anything much out of classes until she is 6 or 7. However, totally do stuff with her at home all the time!

GET HER DANCING!!! Really, if you think she is to young for a very structured dance class, just get her into a littlies ballet group or a movement to music thing. She will enjoy it and get benifits from it aswell! I hope that helps!
