i keep getting horrible cramps on my lower left side and lower stomach

If they worsen or are persistent and severe, you need to go to the hospital immediately and have them exam you. It could be that it is placed improperly or that you have some sort of physical issue with the IUD that is causing trouble.
If the above doesn't apply, call your OB/GYN or family doctor and discuss with them the amount of time you should allow before you NEED to go back in for an exam if they haven't gone away.

Cramping after getting an IUD can take days. I found that the thing that worked the best on my pain was Advil Liquigels. Take 800mg (4 tablets) as advised on the box. Also, a warm bath can help.

It doesn't, I had one put in and the whole time I had cramps but the worse was when I got my period it was so heavy and lasted almost two weeks. Two weeks on and two weeks off that went on for one year until I couldn't take it any longer and had it removed.

sometimes they don't....... you might just want to call your doctor and ask how long should they last for...... and if it can be removed if the craps don't go away.
