Sanskrit is an ancient language that was spoken and written in ancient India. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism often use Sanskrit terms and many of their sacred texts are written in Sanskrit (though not all of them).

In Hinduism Sanskrit is like Latin is in the Catholic church. All rituals in Hindu temples are performed in Sanskrit.
