I just bought my first board and my boyfriend didnt know that the wax went on top of the board, lol, so we are trying to get it off, I was just wondering if this would effect the way you surf.

It fills in the grooves and cuts down on friction.

Besides everyone thinking that you are a complete newb, you would be adding drag to the bottom of your board. Do not do this. Wax is used on the top of the board to provide grip for the surfer's feet. This allows them to stay on the board easier and is essential when performing turns or tricks. There is absolutely NO advantage to waxing the bottom of the board.

without the wax it would be extremely difficult to surf. It's mainly used for traction to grip so u don't wipe out

surfboard as in the snow surfing, or in the water surfing??
putting wax under the snow surfboard would make it go as fast as hell, while it would probably have the reverse efeect on the water surfboard

it works good if ur surfing on the bottom of the board

it gives you traction for when you are surfing, you need to stick to your board when you are pulling a huge air

It makes for a smoother ride and glides across the water better.
Thats why they call it Sex Wax ;)
