You might try introducing the puppy slowly, holding it in the presence of the two cats at first... Allow them to smell and investigate the new member of the household. Allow him to smell them as well; allow them all to aquaint themselves with one another, until a connection is made & they begin to equate each other with family. A slow integration is best, begin through/ with supervised sessions first, until they learn one another... Until All Three Are Comfortable With One Another & around one another. Till the cats realize that he too is a member of the family, as well as they!
Then eventually I'd possibly try leaving them in the same room while at home, peeking in in frequent intervals, to monitor the progress and/or to curb any problems that may arise. Discipline...
And whose to know; there may not be any problems, in the puppy's integration into your blended family.
I had a puppy & cat that were raised up together, they were an odd couple for sure... different species/genus but; best of friends, they were inseparable.

You cant really prepare for that you just have to do it.
I introduced my puppy at 9 weeks old to my 2 cats and they seem to Love her. At first they were scared and hissed alot but now they love on each other.

there is not much you can do.the cats will smack the pup a few times and the pup will take off running through the house yulping like if the cat just tried to kill him/her but the pup will learn fast to stay away from the cats.
