Okay now, you need to be more direct..do you want a point or area target?

Point target is 550 meters.

Area target is 800 meters.

Actually, there's the military, then there's the US Marines. Soldiers are just wanna be Marines. Marines use the M16A2 service rifle and we are the smallest and deadliest force in the world. When the military like army can't get the job done, they call the Marines. Perfect example is Iraq. They first couldn't take over, so the Marines were called and it took us a week to push all the way through. Then the army was supposed to take over but they couldn't handle it so the Marines are still there kicking *** and taking names. Statistically speaking, the M16 is good for 550meters on a point target, like a person, and 800meters on an area target, such as a large vehicle. In reality though, it depends on the person firing the weapon. This comes from 7 years of experience in the Marines.

an M16A2 doesnt have a maximum range because it is carried by all the poges who never ever leave the FOB, and therefore it is never fired.
real soldiers, you know the grunts and scouts and sappers, we carry M4s.
so, knowing the common tasks book answer is just army trivia, and not useful to anyone except suck-ups who go to soldier of the month boards. real soldiers go to promotion boards in iraq and aren't asked stupid questions like that.

If the blogbaba can see it, he can put a hole in it with the weapon. You can cover a blogbaba's shot group with the bottom of a dixie cup at 400 meters, and easily pop balloons out to about 700 meters with iron sights and an unfamiliar zeroed weapon. I wouldn't want to be down range in a hostile situation with a reasonably good shot aiming at me, but if I saw him before he saw me, lights out.

I have competed against good shots, and know enough about shooting to know I am not one of them. M16's are basic combat rifles, even with the extra rifling of an A2 they are only as good as the man using them.

I've never had the opportunity to fire mine over 500yds. The Range Master told us it was only limited by the person using it.

I am not for sure in regards of M16A2 ,although in regards of individual majority usage of basic firearms it depends on individual preference of velocities that one can purchase
at any gun shop etc.
