I would like to find a list of good dry dog food. I don't want a list that contains food with by-products, fillers, meat and bone meal, and corn. I want something that is healthier for my babies!! I would also like the price to be as low as possible, but without losing quality! Please help...

Okay.. my vet recommended Science Diet, but I heard that science diet and Iams, pedigree, beneful (sp?) are all just as bad as the cheap crap.

'Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers soul'

'Canidae'

'Wellness'

These are just a few. My dogs do great on Canidae and Chicken soup. Its well worth switching them over to a better food.
ANYTHING you buy from Walmart or the grocery store is NOT good for them.
Do a google search on dog food nutrition....you'll be surprised at what you learn about the junk they put in the stuff!
Added: Chicken Soup is the most affordable by the way,
and its an excellent quality food.

It may be hard to find food to fit those requirements that is cheap. Bone meal is not bad and meat is something carnivores need. Here are some good median priced dog foods that I know of:
Nature's Recipe- this brand has varieties that include atypical meat sources and it is good for dogs with allergies as it has no wheat, corn or soy in it. Also you don't want a food with toxic preservatives like BHA and BHT. Their atypical meat sources are Venison, Duck and Rabbit and they have Fish too.
Authority Harvest Baked is a good food that is reasonably priced.
Royal Canin is a bit more but not much more and is a good food.
Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance is an excellent food that is pricier.
Newman's Own is sold at Whole Foods Stores in my city, not sure where in your area but you can use a locater on line. I have no idea how much it costs, but most likely pricey. It has very healthy ingredients though.
You can check out this site for a diet that is a lot of work but could be put together for cheaper. It's a raw diet:
http://www.rawdogranch.com
I had all three of my dogs on a raw diet for three or four months and they did great, had very shiny coats and were very healthy on it. I have a small freezer though and it got hard to maintain with three dogs.
Remember, though you did not list it, WHEAT is a major offender when it comes to dog's allergies.

A friend of ours who has been a dog breeder and trainer for yrs and yrs says the best dog foods and the best prices come from the feed store vs pet shop or dept store bec the feed stores specialize in animal feeds and thereby get better prices at wholesale level. As far as ingredients you can compare for yourserlf by reading lables or web sites. Some of the things like corn, bone meal, and meat may be useful and healthy for your dog so maybe the fiorst step is to research and see what your dogs nutritional needs are and what combinations of ingredients will meet them best.

There are a lot of pet stores like Petsmart, Petco, Pet supplies plus- they all carry the same assortment of dry dog foods- and you need a special PUPPY food for your pups......did you ask your vet? though I do know they prefer the really expensive ones like eukanuba---but if you belong to SAMS or COSCO they carry the better name dog foods for a good savings because you're buying 50 lbs at a time...........so if you have the room, that's the way to go......walmart also carries a lot of brands and the price is almost as cheap as SAMS but not in 50 lbs but 40...
kisses to your puppies---------I loveeeeeeeeeeeeee doggies!

You could refer to the Whole Dog Journal, that lists the top approved dog foods each month. www.whole-dog-journal.com
I use Addiction dry dog food which is on the WDJ list. It is a holistic formula that contains whole meat rather than meal and has no additives and fillers. They have a website: www.addictionfoods.com

True, Science Diet does not really have better ingredients. I've heard to look for food that the first TWO ingredients are MEAT, not by-product or meal. I've found that Eukanuba fits the bill for my cats. Check Petsmart or Petco. They regularily have sales and discounts. Just make sure to take a good look at the ingredients, that's the key!

Are you a dog, because that is the only way these dogs could be your babies.
I like Science Diet. It gives your pet a nice coat, and is very healthy for them. You're going to have to spend a little if you want to go up the quality chain.
Maybe you could look in Consumer Reports?

I feed my dogs pedigree, and I'm sure alot of people say it's crap, but one of my dogs is 11 years old, 125 lbs and still going strong on that "crap". Purina is also a good choice though!
