Yes it sounds like your cat has tapeworms.... the "grains" are from the worms. I have researched it and the only effective treatment is getting a worm medicine from the vet (sometimes a vet doesn't need to see the cat before prescribing a med, sometimes they will insist on seeing the cat). The med that the vet will give you will take care of the worms almost instantaneously. It should help to stop the diarrhea too. Usually you give the cat a pill once and then again in three weeks. If the diarrhea doesn't stop after a few days I would consult a vet just to be sure that it isn't a symptom of another problem.

Good luck!

Most effective treatment for what certainly sounds like tapeworm infestation from your description is a visit to your vet. Make an appointment as quickly as possible and bring in a stool sample containing the worm evidence as well for the vet to examine and confirm. More than likely the diarrhea is associated with the presence of parasites and should clear up by worming.

I would bring your cat into a vet. Self-diagnosing could harm the cat. My cat had tapeworms, and I found out because I was lucky enough to see one fall off of her, and when i looked at it to see what it was, it moved. So I then did research on the net, to find out exactly which kind of worm it was. It was tape worm, I brought my cat in for a check up, then the vet gave me two pills. I gave one to her and then 10 days later, I gave her the second one. And the lil wormies were gone. Best thing to do, to find out if it is worms is, look where your cat usually sleeps, or lies down. If you find little white rice looking things, those are dried up dead tape worms. Once I looked around my house, in all the place where she likes to sleep, I found many of them. Which helped me out, because now I know what to look for, in case she gets them again. My cat however never had diarrhea, could be a symptom I'm not sure. Just bring the little kitty in, he/she will Thank you. :)

Honestly, I am sorry to hear about your kitty having chronic diarrhrea...I feel your cat may have digestive problems that need to be addressed. You did try to change his diet and that seemed to bring tapeworms. My cat occasionally gets worms and the best bet is a quick visit to the vet, they have a great antibiotic tasty (for kitty) medicine to get it out of his systme...If you are looking for a holistic method, I am sorry I am unsure...Also, is your cat under stress, you are saying chronic, was the kitty born this way? These are definitely questions a vet can answer. I hope this helps a bit. ;)

When I found my cat she had it too. It does look like grains of rice as the tapeworm breaks apart. The vet said it is caused by the bite of a flea. You need to take your kitty to the vet to get the proper med for him.

Here's a site I found to further explain it http://www.cat-world.com.au/TapewormInCats.htm

You can get tapeworm meds from the vet or you can buy Praziquantel Tapeworm Tabs for Cats ad Kittens from Petco or Petsmart. The bottle of 3 tabs come with specific intructions for use - follow them closely. I used this for my own two cats and they worked.

The best way to treat him is to have the vet prescribe a tablet for him, the tablets in stores don't work. Flea tapeworm are transmitted by fleas so to prevent it recurring you will have to treat the fleas as well.

bypass to the vet for the suited meds...many of the different the counter meds are risky to cats. Your cat is greater effective off taking the suited (non-holistic) meds and eliminating the worms. i be attentive to of NO holistic meds which will kill them.

Check the stools and if you see worms in the stools then the cat could have tape worms and if they are round then your cat has round worms.
