It is misunderstood and misinterpreted, yes. Irrelevant and an anachronism, no. Let me explain why.

There are many accounts in the Bible, which employ a literary device used by Jewish Old and New Testament writers called Midrash. Midrash is the substantive of the Hebrew word darash which means to search, to investigate, to study and, also, to expound on the fruits of the research. The aim of Midrash is to draw from Scripture a lesson for the present.

Midrash could also be defined as a "reflection on Scripture in the light of the actual situation of God's people and of the developments of God's action on its history." It proposes to explain the meaning of Scripture in the light of the later historical experience of God's people. This kind of interpretation often opened the door to embellishments of the sacred accounts, anachronisms, and a freedom in handling and maneuvering the data of tradition that were at times a little too candid and certainly very imaginative.

It is the revelation which is important, not the literal sense of the account.

Grace and peace!

I have read the Bible for at least thirty years and it provides an answer to every question. Somtimes in general...sometimes specific. The Bible has been misused and I believe it is only as perfect as anything on Earth can be. I believe there is wisdom, and help on every page. I think its the world that has changed and people think it out of date because they don't generally want to believe what it says. Let alone do waht it says. It tells of a narrow path that not many can stay on.
There are so many people believing all kinds of other books by all kinds of people...yet they try to discredit the Bible over and over.... read the new testament and decide for yourself.

No, I think that there is still believers all around the world who continue to study and read the bible and believe every part of it without doubt. I am convinced of this because I notice that followers continue to fight and defend it til this day regardless if it's accurate or not.
