I have read all the critics on yahoo answers.
Here is the real Deal.
It was over when Johnson outgunned, outsmarted and outmaneuvered Tony Stewart during a NASCAR version of the game “chicken” at 180-something mph down the thrilling stretch.

Oh, and you’ll find this surprising: Stewart wasn’t pleased in the aftermath. “Nobody likes to hit the wall. That’s pretty much a no-brainer, I think,” he said, sounding like his hero, A.J Foyt, when it comes to grumbling over tough losses. “I wish [Johnson] had of given me a little more room,” he said. And he went on to say that Johnson had the faster car and that he never kept his opponent from having room to race on the track.

Yeah, right. And neither Stewart nor Foyt would have done as much with the checkered flag nearly in sight.

To paraphrase Herman Edwards, YOU TRY TO WIN THE RACE.

That’s why Johnson is the only driver ever to finish in the top five in the standings during his opening five seasons. That’s why he won the title

FASTER yes, BETTER -- NO WAY BUCKY
Stewart had it won and Johnson was "out of gas" and tires. The Phantom of the cautions struck
So here's the deal-- Chad K(Johnson's crew chief) won . I will agree that JJ can drive a loose (loose is the fastest) race car he is one of the best, but not "the best".
Tony, like his Hero AJ Foyt (who you also slammed) is the best. Either of these men can and respectfully for AJ (could) drive any car any where and win. Look at the record books. Indy cars, stock cars (pavement or dirt) , sprints, midgets, pick a series.

And another point- with the as you say, "checkered in sight", did he(Stewart) or did he not , give JJ a lane to run and I don't think he "slammed the door" (racing term for cutting some off with a very questionable maneuver) on him(Johnson).

I worked at B&M when they where suppling the Transmissions for Herzog racing in the score offroad series, JJ was there driver, and I always thought he was very good, but not the best.

What JJ has is the best eqiupment and a sympathetic eye from NASCAR.
If they ran the whole NASCAR field in a sprint , midget, Indy car,SCCA,F1 race . TONY STEWART would be the winner The results would be Stewart,Blaney,Scharder, J.Gordon,Yeley

Tony Stewart set the record for rookie wins, and has WON the CHAMPIONSHIP TWICE

Check the records books and see how your favorite driver has fared in This and other racing series, it will shed a little light.

Mr. Mile and a half does it again! Jimmie really has these tracks down and as long as they keep going to as many as they do he will be in the hunt every year. I give my props to Smoke for not wrecking Johnson and himself. I know he was not happy coming in second but he did say that the 48 car was better than his own. I was wondering yesterday what the conspiracy theorists would have to say about this dominating win and I see Kenneth W has the answer, the late debris caution and saying that Jimmie would have run out of gas. It always makes me chuckle when the haters have to search so hard for an excuse to discredit Jimmie's accomplishments. According to their calculations he would have just made it to the end without a stop. If you want to talk about late cautions for debris, that's what screwed Jimmie from winning at California (he was leading and had a bad stop on the late debris caution, Kenseth wins). PAPABILL is a class act, I know Tony is his guy and I said all week I thought he would be battling for the win. Tony might be able to drive a car a little harder but Jimmie sure knows how to take care of what they give him. Almost every weekend the 48 team leaves themself a chance for the win. Chad Knaus is a huge reason for the consistency and Zippy is right up there as well. I like how the 48 team is passing notes to the crew during the race, it's like the football coaches on the sidelines covering their mouth with the play calling sheet so the opposition can't read your lips. It's early but you have to start thinking about the first repeat champion since Gordon!

Kenneth - You bet I heard it and if you think they are telling the truth on the radio you haven't been paying attention. The radio stuff is for the rest of you to speculate on the REAL information is in the notes that only the crew gets. It's gamesmanship, If they can make it he's gonna say they can't and vice versa.

Would you "be pleased in the aftermath?" I guess it's easy to say Stewart "grumbles over tough losses" when you are watching the race from your couch and not behind the wheel.

In addition, Stewart said, "To be honest whatever I say is probably going to be wrong. I even hate to answer that," Stewart said. "We're both racing hard with three laps to go. You don't know if his spotter told him he was clear so he just kept coming. You don't know what the circumstances are with that without talking to him. It is what it is. At the end he's in Victory Lane and we're here talking about finishing second."

Not sure how that is "grumbling".

Just for the record, Stewart has only finished out of the top 7 once in his career, and has 2 championships.

That my friends, is the real deal.

Congrats to Jimmie Johnson for the win Sunday.Yes he has a very strong car and team and we will see more wins from him in the future.
The fact that he beat Tony in the "chess match" is not the point.I see where there were some driving errors on the track and the big one that cost Tony was the slip and the scraping the wall.Yess Johnson had the car and the talent and he won. Each race is different and each race will have the pros and cons.
I just hope to see some good close racing.

Awesome race! I love Jimmie Johnson but I hate whiners who want to bring up crap like the "ghost" caution! That mess happens every freakin' race. The gas situation was almost everybodys problem so not only would Johnson been sitting on the apron, so would have Stewart and about 13 other cars. What's the point of whining?

Even though I'm not a J.J. fan. I have to say that the #48 team is definitely on top of their game. At Atlanta, Johnson had a better race car than Tony. That's credit to his crew chief. As far as a racing talent goes, he is way more consistent than Tony; and consistency gets rewarded in NASCAR racing.

Stewart will grumble, and that's one of the reasons I love him. Johnson sounds like a damn robot half the time. I grudgingly admit that Johnson earned it, but as a Smoke fan, it was still very disappointing.

Amen. I could not have said it better myself. Jr. used to be the driver I loved to Hate. But the more Tony Stewart opens his mouth the more, I like Jr. I mean Jr is at least a classy looser. had he been in that situation, he most liekly would have said something like- Well Jimmie was just faster and had a better car, or I tried to squeeze by, but there just was not enough room, I should have judged the distance better. (I really don't like Jr either, but at least he has some class) Really that is what almost any other driver would have said.

Come on Does Tony not get it? It is called racing, if you give them room, then they, will pass you and win. DUH!!! Of course Jimmie was not going to give him room. Jimmie should not have given him room, nor should anyone else. Tony is just a whiney crybaby. He should go drive for Michael Waltrip. Maybe they would give him the Pampers car to drive.
