In Australia there is billions of water wasted due to resevoir leaks and allot of water is flushed out to sea to clean the lakes and rivers not to mention the crops such as rice that farmers flood their properties with water regularly and yet if we turn on a tap to water the garden on a restricted day we get fined. And getting fined for a leaky tap is just blatenly wrong if the government cant fix their leaks and have no plan too either

I also regularly change tap washes and recycle the washing water but when the government blatenly wastes it and has no will to fix there own leaks it is hypocritical in my opinion

watering the garden helps trees grow which help build retention which saves water and depollutes the sky. And after many years the water in a garden ends up below in big hollow sections bores can utilise this water it is not lost as quick as being flushed out to sea where our tides increase and it is spread over the globe where they dont even need it.

The responsibility lies with each and everyone of us. We each must do what we can to ensure survival on this planet. There are many examples of water wastage but that is not a reason to not do our bit ... every little bit helps.

A leaking tap is one of the places where many litres of water can be lost without it being very noticeable. Try putting a container under the tap and see just how much water you are actually loosing. You may be amazed.

There are many simple things we can do to save water and so many ways we can water our gardens without using the wastage of hoses and sprinklers. Improve the soil, use mulch, bucket watering is fine and good for your health. I have several I have in the bathroom for when I shower ... they fill in no time (as I don't use a toxic cleanser the water is clean). All water from the washing machine goes outside to the garden as does that from the kitchen sink (via a grease trap). It is now legal to have grey water redirected to your yard. You will find there will be more than enough water for any garden using this water.

we are only borrowing this land from our children ...

Education, education and education is the way to communicate your in formations out. I am glad that you ask this question and is willing to do more. Keep trying and everyone has to pit in as well as the government. I urge you to start a grass root and move from there. Get more people involve and ask them to sign petition and collect signatures then present it to the government agency who heads Water program. Believe me the power of the people is strong and you need to lead this role. I do not mind to join you. Unfortunately, I am not in Australia. Well let start now and I wish you well. Good luck.
