After cancelling a credit card...how long does it stay on your credit report. Will it just state that the account was closed in good standing? How long will someone be able to tell that i even had a credit card with that company. Thanks

They say it stays on your report for 7 years, but credit issuers can go back to the day you turned 18 and established your first line of credit. It will be noted that the account was closed at the customers request but they will be able to see all the detail such as when the account was opened, late payments, max credit balance, and any notes listed by the credit card company.

Just an FYI...it is better to leave a credit card open with a zero balance than it is to close the account. Everytime you close a credit account it lowers your FICO score.
