First and foremost, you must seriously consider hiring a lawyer who is regularly in Fairfax County Court. Second, you do face the danger of going to jail for approximately 3 - 5 days. However, if a variety of factors work in your favor, then you may be able to avoid jail time. The factors being things such as your driving record, your interaction with the police officer, what was the device the police officer used to determine your speed, whether his calibration records are up to date, etc. If you are able to avoid active jail time, you will probably still have your license suspended for period of time. You may be able to get a restricted if you can prove the need for a restricted license. Please understand that reckless driving, especially in Fairfax is a very serious traffic offense. If you wish to discuss this matter further, you are welcome to contact my office and speak to Garrett Green. Good Luck.

Reckless driving is an arrestable offense but I would say that if it was your first offense then you will get a hefty fine plus court ordered defensive driving classes and maybe some community service. To be tossed in jail sounds very unlikely. If the attorney you spoke with has that attitude I'd get another one, he sounds very under-confident.

Since you have to go to court, take a lawyer with you. The fine itself is going to be expensive.
