If my dog had a can of the pet food that was recalled how long would it actually take for it to take effect? I have three dogs and I only once in a while feed them the cuts in gravy cans and i gave them a can of it a couple of days ago. If they had eaten a bad batch would i see some signs immediately? They are all still eating fine running around drinking regularly, their renal functions seem fine. what im trying to say is is this something that could take effect a week later or is it pretty much immediatE?

I fed them priority brand from vons. i just went in today and the shelves were completely empty except for pedigree so we just got pedigree and the lady at the checkstand told us right away about the recall. ya we only fed them one can out of the blue. most of the time they eat the mashed up stuff with the rice. thanks for the answers.

i would think it would be the "regular daily feeders" that are getting the renal failure.... if you stopped the food and they are still ok a week later you doged a bullit . jmo.

All the articles I've read don't say specifically how long it takes, but they do mention that pet owners have become suspicious after a few days of their dogs/cats not eating/drinking/feeling well. So, what that means exactly, I don't know. Sounds like your 3 are okay, thank goodness, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to consult your vet -- if anything just to put your mind to rest.

What is the brand of canned dog food? Sounds like the kind my dog eats sometimes.

I'm thinking it would take effect in about 24-48 hours, probably when the food they ate begins to digest. If you see any signs of illness, diarea ect I suggest taking them to the vet.

Just watch them and be aware that they should not be given any of that cuts and gravy you may have on had. - toss it. If one of them acts sick then quickly take the dog(s) to the vet.

Purina just announced a recall too. They have a vet line. Call them.
