My sister has the very same problem. Although right now she has a tan. She's been laying in the tanning bed. She started with a very few minutes maybe 5 or so give or take and has worked her way up but not maxing out as her skin cannot handle it. SHE ACTUALLY HAS A TAN. I couldn't believe it. I've never seen her with a tan. I hadn't seen her for a while and yesterday I was in shock. DO NOT LAY IN THE TANNING BED FOR A LONG TIME. You will burn, you will peel... the end!

As for me... I don't lay in the sun or in the tanning bed. I buy this wonderful fantastic fake tanning lotion called FAKE BAKE. You'll love it. Then there's no need to burn yourself! Recently, I've been using Jergen's Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer but it's just for a darker glow not really a tan, but I like it that way. Good Luck with everything! I hope you find something.

You may never tan, you may always turn pink. Instead, get some self-tanning lotion. I like Tropez, but Coppertone is okay, too. Put it on your body but not your face to see if you even like it. Because of your hair, you may not look good with a tan. You might try a combination of self-tan and a hair rinse to darken your hair a bit which is easy and it will wash out in eight shampoos. Once you see that, though, I'll bet you go back to red hair and pale. Also, tanning beds only work on people who tan in the sun, it sounds like you don't. Or, you may end up really freckled but still pale. And, you should look up the kinds of skin cancer you can get -- especially if you don't protect your eyes. And, tanning, whether beds or sun, will make you really wrinkled pretty fast. My sister, who tans well, looked 40 by age 20.

You would do better renting tanning beds since they are much more accurate. Go slowly and then as you build up, go out into the sun. You know how dark your freckles are? That is the maximum darkness you can obtain... unlikely but in theory how dark you can get.

you will not tan if you are not genetically inclined to. Don't burn yourself. Its the path to skin cancer... fair skinned people will not tan, end of story.
