I only take it off when I am putting things like lotion on my fingers or styling product in my hair. When I wash dishes I use those big yellow rubber gloves. I don't think soap can damage a ring. I just don't want product to build up on my ring so I can minimize cleaning the ring.

Hey good question!
I have been doing the exact same thing in terms of showering and washing dishes etc. (been engaged a month now).
It depends where I am - i take it off to wash my hands at home but not when I am out, I'm scared of losing it!

I never take off my rings. I don't want to risk losing it or forgetting to put it back on and in turn forgetting where I left it. Soap will not hurt the ring unless it came out of a cracker jack box. The diamond is a hard stone and will be able to withstand regular hand soap, shampoo, dish detergent, and the like. If anything, it will help keep your diamond shiney and clean.

I practically never take off my engagement ring. I wear it when I shower, wash my hands, sleep, etc. Sometimes I do take it off to apply lotion to my body after a shower because I don't want the lotion to clump up in the grooves of the ring. The only other time I take it off is when I'm kneading dough--and I follow my mom's habit of putting it on the honey-bear when I do that!

Soap should not hurt your engagement ring. So feel free to leave it on.

I rarely take mine off, and never just to wash my hands. I've worn my band for over 20 years with no problem, showering, cooking, dishes, gardening, etc. etc.. I don't wear a diamond because I'm afraid I'll scratch patients. There's no reason you have to remove your rings that often. I'd be afraid it would fall down the drain or somewhere else I couldn't find it. Are you a newly-wed? :)

I take my wedding rings off to shower, but that is about it. I do leave all my rings on when I wash my hands, however, I make sure that i wash underneath it and then make sure that it is rinsed WELL, then dry it EXTREMELY WELL.. You can get a rash from the soap and stuff and then it not being dry under your ring. It happened to me, not pleasant. If you are worried, just take it off completely. But the water and soap wont hurt the ring itself, practically the same stuff they use to clean them at the store.

I take my rings off to sleep, wash my hands, take showers, swim, clean around the house, etc., etc. Soap isn't going to hurt the ring, but if it slips off your finger and goes down the drain.....THAT hurts. It's a very expensive plumbing bill too, if you can get it.

I take mine off simply because I get a rash on my finger if there is any moisture and soap there, it just seems to react and make my finger so sore. I make sure I put it down somewhere safe, or put it in my pocket, and put it on as soon as my hands are totally dry again.

I don't think there is a problem with taking your ring off to wash your hands, but just make sure you put it somewhere safe while you are. A pocket would work.

You're safe with general handwashing, but you are wise to at least remove your engagement ring at other times; unless your wedding ring has stones in it, too.

Soap can build up on the stone(s) causing them to dull; and harsh cleaners will most definately hurt the finish. So will chlorine bleach & hair dyes; even hair spray & perfume.
And be sure to remove them when applying lotion or hand cream.

Have your rings checked annually to make sure the settings are secure
