I don't, haven't, and will never take drugs (I mean, besides caffine, and don't really plan on using it as a "drug" - just eat what tastes good and seems to do good). Naps can work, but not too long! And coffee doesn't work, as I don't like coffee! Tea is limited, and so is hot chocolate. I just want to know, that's all - I'm not planning on trying it really - it's just that I've been a bit too much of a night owl, and have found myself sleeping in (Ho-owl, Hwool!).

It's definately possible. I work the night shift and sometimes stay up all day the next day, if I don't have to work the following night. A little caffeine can be helpful if staying up is what you want to do ... so can a 20 minute power nap.
Personally, I manage on about 4 hours of sleep a day ... sometimes adding in another hour or so just before I'm supposed to go in to work. It works for me but not for everyone. Some people need more sleep than others. The trick is to find what works for you.
Pleasant dreams.

I'm like this and I have had to really rethink my health. Some night owls like us, just naturally gravitate that way. But I am a caffeine junkie too. And so when I stay up all night and have to function during the day, I turn to caffeine as a crutch.
Recently I was on anti-depressants which calmed my anxiety. But now I am in the process of withdrawing from Effexor...and this has really red flagged my stimulant habits. It is making my Effexor withdrawal even worse...plus with nothing to calm my nerves, the stimulants are bouncing around more than ever. I have been having PANIC attacks!
Don't underestimate if you are using caffeine in any form that you are drug using whether it is food or drinks, or pills. There is a reason I like Diet Mt Dew so much...and while it is true that I like the taste, it is because I love the boost.
Back to sleep patterns, I have been really trying to get myself on the day cycle lately and it isn't easy. But if you can do this, your body is happier. You don't fight the cycles of nature. Your body is programmed to wake in the morning and sleep at night. If you have had to change that for a third shift work schedule, or because you enjoy the quiet of the night, or whatever, you have probably partially done it in unhealthy ways. I never thought it would matter so much but boy does it ever.
I don't have all the answers for you and I'm certainly not judging you because I am right there with you in dealing with it. But maybe just far enough down the road you are taking...to be able to encourage you to let your body sleep at night, and to put down the caffeine so it will start to happen.

I work overnight part-time. And I have to be up at 6am with my kids even if I am not just getting home from work. On a typical work day I get up at 6am, stay up all day, take a nap from 5:30 unitl 8pm get ready for work, leave at 9:30pm work from 10 until 6am get the kids on their buses at 7 and 7:55 then I go to bed at 8am only to be up by 2pm so that I can be awake when they get home from school. And people wonder why I'm tired....this is when I'm not working back to back nights...that's worse. My secret to staying awake durring the day when I need to? Keep moving. I'm fine as long as I stay busy. It's when I sit down that I'm toast if ya know what I mean.

the best way that ive found was to stay awake all night and all day when you have a day or weekend off. you should be so tired by the end of the second day, that you will want to just pass out. make sure you have an alarm set to wake you up in the morning, so you odnt sleep in again.
