This is a Jewish Holiday. The day it is celebrated is called a Day of Atonement. This day is when the Jews repent, by fasting. Although many different relgions fast, this is the holiest days for the Jews in which they try to pure themselves of their sins. It is a somber day, however many Jews depending on their country celebrate diffrently. Some in Spain and North Africa and countires around them wear white, to symbolizes their purity from sin. However, here is the catch, their sins between themselves and God is shown, not their sins between fellow man. They purre themsevles by only wanting a clean slate with God, and who wouldn’t? Although this is the holiest days, it is a tradiotn to Jews to have a big feast before any holiday, but because this is a fasting holiday, then do not have a feast before the holiday, only after.
I hope this was helpful.

Yom Kippur is the Jewish Day of Atonement, a holy day that is in the fall. During that day, Jews abstain from eating (fast) and pray that their sins will be forgiven. It is the culmination of the ten days of repentance, starting with the Jewish New Year. During that time, Jews are supposed to reflect on how they lived their lives during the year and what sins they committed against other people. The Holy Day starts at sunset the night before (as usual for Jewish holidays) and continues until 1 hour after sunset the day of the holiday.
