I want to work for a Golf Club Manufacturer. I have a business degree, and I'm working on my master's in business right now. I play golf a lot, but I'm not great. I want to know how hard it is to become a sales rep for one of these top company's. I think that would be something I would love to do.

I work for a major club manufacturer, although I am not a sales rep. If you want to work in the industry as a rep it's really not as hard as you think... if your prepared to put in the grunt work. Don't expect to walk in the front door of Ping or any other manufacturer with your masters and get handed a rep job. You will be expected to work your way up in the company. You might have to start out in customer service and then move your way up into key accounts or inside sales before you get your own territory outside the home office.
As far as being able to play golf, you really don't want to be a hack; as you will often be invited to play at and with your accounts, and be expected to be able to hold your own. You don't have to be a single digit, but your index should definitely be better than an 18.
If you're serious about doing it and you are comfortable with the idea of not making much money for the first few years with the company you can definitely do it. Just remember that the willingness to do that will be the difference between you and the guy with the degree that thinks his education = instant rep job.

good luck and happy golfing.

one other piece of advice; if you value your soul, don't ever work for Callaway

I've never a sales man that was good at anything except yapping. They dress well, smile a lot, and can sell you anything you don't need. If your 5'6" and weigh 400 lbs. I don't think you would represent the golf industry very well. Most golf sale people are men, so that may be a prerequisite. You're young and can try anything. Give it a go and you'll know if it's for you. Good luck!!

Have you ever had a commission only sales job before? It's not for everyone. Many people land sales jobs... very few are successful. Sales is its' own art-form.
