Soft water is perfectly safe to drink in every case but one; it is a bit higher in sodium than hard water, so it should be avoided if you are on a sodium-restricted diet.
I make my coffee with soft water, and it is far superior to that made with hard water.

It doesn't really harm anyone/anything, but if you're looking to be as healthy as possible you should omit the softener and go for a filter instead.

However, neither of those are really necessary. You will be ok with just drinking plain old tap water, unless you have a huge lead problem or rusty water.

It's only citric acid that's being used in a water softener treatment. Perfectly safe to drink.

It should make it healthier to drink because it is taking out harsh metals.
