I see so many people in here that just hate this guy. I personally like the guy, I just see some many people that don't like him and I am trying to find out why.

I cannot give you a good reason to dislike Juan Pablo Montoya, he's a great talent. He does have a little bit of a cocky attitude but that is almost a prerequisite for being a decent driver at the cup level. I can shed a little insight as to why many of NASCAR's biggest fans bash him. It's like the whole Toyota deal, he's different and a lot of fans just don't like change. They want their Burtons, Earnhardts, Labontes and so on that they can trace their lineage back to some small town in America. Some foreign guy being competitive and perhaps winning some races is a huge threat to their favorite driver and perhaps their image of it somehow being exclusively an "American" sport. Fans of racing get very set in their ways and right now many are very uncomfortable with all the changes in the rules, manufacturers and drivers.

I think the dislike is not so much derived from him (I like him so far) as it is the fact that he gets a free pass into the limelight because he comes from F1. That's all fine and good, but the media attention goes overboard. He's NASCAR's newest golden boy. He'll be hated like most kids in a classroom hate the teacher's pet. There's not a whole lot he can do about it except be thankful that he's getting a disproportionate amount of publicity and recognize that when that happens the haters are sure to follow. One thing he can do is let out a bit of his rebel side once he gets established and call out the corporates in NASCAR. Then he might win over some of those who begrudge him being born into NASCAR with the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth. The other thing that he can do is win some races; that usually has a way of getting some respect.

I see NO reason not to like Juan Pablo Montoya. He is a great racer and I love his post race interviews. He isn't afraid to tell it like it is. I see him winning some races when he gets his Cup bearings !!

I haven't seen one, either. And I'm loving how quickly he's learning NASCAR. Basically, I think people who dislike him are either flat-out xenophobic or else it's because he knows he's talented. (Guys like that sometimes get a bad reputation--Stewart, Darrell Waltrip, the Busch brothers...)

VIVA MONTOYA!!!!

PS--Why does he need advice from Casey Mears?

If your name is Scott Pruett then you have a legitimate reason. :-)

Otherwise, just enjoy the tremendous talent and experience Montoya has!

Well, he comes from a big background, some may like or dislike him from things he did before NASCAR. As for me, I haven't known him as a NASCAR driver long enough to have a reason to dislike him. He seems ok so far, and I like his personality so far, so he's ok in my book.

It might be because he was successful in other racing series and some people think he is going to ruin Nascar. I don't think so and I think he is a great addition to Nascar. He is running good and impressing everyone.

He is cocky and arrogant. Last year, as they were getting him ready to cross-over and through his Busch races, there were several times that Casey Mears offered advice and he just brushed him off, like he didn't need it. I read several quotes and/or interviews by Casey where he talked about it. Eventually, Casey just shrugged it off and stopped trying. JPM also has made many quotes talking about how easy NASCAR was and stuff like that. He just rubbed me the wrong way, and consequently, is toward the top of my "dislike" list. He is actually above both Busch brothers on that list, about second to Robby Gordon.

I have one...
it's a personal one....
When I met him when he was driving the CART series. My girlfriend fell in love with his accent. So now I have to put with her trying to understand nascar & watching every race with me. I was enjoying my naps between accidents!
