Can I choose to become a Muslim anytime or is there a certain time to become one? Do I need to talk with a Imam before doing so? Have any of you converted to Islam? What were your reasons for doing so?

Any time is the best time my friend.

I spent almost 2 years thinking about reverting but I was already wearing the scarf to see if I could adjust to it. I had been spending a lot of time with a very very wise man. I did not know he was Muslim, but in the 5 years I was with him, he changed much of my thinking about the world. He opened up doors for me and when he spoke to me of Islam, I was almost ready to embrace it.

This was almost 2 years ago that I took my Shahada. You can take this any time you feel moved to do so. There is no special day or month or hour. When you take your Shahada however, be prepared to feel like you are walking on air for a few days! You really do feel differently even though it is such a simple ritual.

I reverted/converted to Islam because the absolute simplicity of it appealed to me. It made much more sense to me than other things I had been involved with during my life. There are different approaches to Islam. The one I take is the one most scorned in the Muslim world, that of the Sufi mystics. The rules, the basics, are the same, but there is a bit more freedom in some ways. I

There is no certain time to become a Muslim

You don't need to talk to Imam before doing so.
All you need to witness ( there is no gods expect Allah , and prophet Muhammad is his messenger) and then you are a Muslim,

I would like to hear your story that make you think to convert to Islam, peace be upon you brother.
Imam can tell do and don't but you can ask us and take look at these web site

Be anything you want at anytime, nobody can tell you what you can and cannot do. But becoming a muslim or joining 99% of religions is a waste of your time and wont give you any answers. Think about your reason for doing this and dont let fear hold you back. Once you are fearless religion will seem pointless, there is no right or wrong. Karma does exist in the sense of revenge and gratitude.

Mostly your wasting your time surfing religions, they have little to offer...

I am not Muslim. I am pretty laid back Christian for what it's worth, just saying that is my bias.

You want to make sure that you are well educated about joining up with any religion...so that you can worship honestly.

If you plan on joining a congregation, I would make sure your local worship community is people you want to hang out with. For example, I am not involved in a church because most churches here in east Texas are wayyyy too conservative for me. I would be ashamed to be friends with them because I wouldn't want a non-believer to lump me in with them, and they would insult MY beliefs at every turn with their spouting of their take on the truth. So...I worship privately...and I get lonely but that's okay. I just do my thing. You should too if you can't see yourself being in a local group.

Another thing, being Muslim, I don't know how it is finding a place to worship at all, so practical considerations about it. Can you get to Mosque as regularly as you would want to?

I don't know what Islam teaches but I would think you shouldn't HAVE to do anything with regard to consulting anyone about converting. Religion is a matter of the heart and it is very private, it is between you and God. You can simply wake up one day and declare yourself whatever you want to be and you ARE!

The good time is once you felt that Islam is the only way to heaven then
become a Muslim
In Islam you will return to the pure, original, sinless state in which God created you. You will experience true freedom - the pure, direct, and exclusive worship of the One True God, free of any intermediaries between you and Him.

. You will find that you have entered a religion pure and clear, free of confusion and contradiction, with a preserved Book and a beautiful way of life. And in the hereafter, you will abide forever in peace, in gardens beneath which rivers flow

In my family many of my relatives married to converts and so far I got good reviews from them because they said we, Muslims live in harmony and moderate way of life. Family ties and respect are strong and important among Muslims.
