I would want to know.. I think keeping it from someone is a lie..
I go on the premise of life : "to know the truth, and the truth will set you free". That means to me too to speak the truth..
I myself have a life threatening medical condition dealing with. I learned of just before Christmas.. I can't have a biopsy even because so much at risk.. so waiting till April for a second cat scan.. i opted for, rather than the biopsy risk . Life is a series of choices and risks at times. we are the ones dealing with ultimately.. none of us get the choice sometimes what we will be given to deal with, but i do have the choice on how.. In High School a friend had a life threatening illness. her family didn't tell her. She was never given the chance to do her life in a way she may have chosen different.. I went along my life one way before Dec. If i hadn't been told i know i would have gone on as did.. and the change that i have found is a good one./ a more peaceful one. rather things get worse or not.. i pray i can stay on this course new i have found.. there is a different sense of life and peace for me I have never had.. Maybe too because i already had one near death experience. in truth i don't want to leave my family, or think of what will become of those i love or the things i cared for, the meals i love to cook for others missed.. but this is the cycle of life , death.. Some of us pass quickly , silently and others suffer and sometimes long.. I pray whom ever this may affect will in the end know true peace.

I was born with Hunter's Syndrome and am glad I was told. It is a mild form of the disease. At least when everything started aching and my endurance was depleted I knew what to tell the doctor. (work comp insurance loved it too.)
But knowing what will eventually happen helps me prepare mentally and physically. Actually I thank god that I am doing as well as I am. They say It is because I worked so long.
Anyway to answer your question I am glad I was told and it helped me to face and deal with it.

Gotta know. Otherwise you'll be asking questions as to what the heck's going on with you and they'd have to tell you anyway.
