I don't know that what I've seen is completely accurate. But it seems that when Christians are attacked here on yahoo! answers they do a good job of 'turning the other cheek'- but then when it comes to a discussion on anything Catholic, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, or Non-Christian they'll turn around and be just as vicious as their attackers are to them. Why is that?

I wouldn't say all of those groups you exclude don't turn the other cheek. I tend to think there are actually quite a few who are very cordial and respectful despite being attacked. I know I always try to be respectful no matter what. Unfortunately, there are those in all religions who react differently to criticizm and lies. There certainly are more people who have bad things to say about Mormons than Mormons talking bad about others. We all just need to be respectful and not try to tear others down for their faith, which is personal.

Humanly speaking, Christians are just that....humans. The Bible teaches forgiveness, humility, and instructs a follower of Christ to turn the other cheek. Not all Christians are pacifists, and certainly none is perfect or has a perfect answer. Jesus said to be angry and sin not. There is a place for confrontation in even a Christian's life, but it should be handled with dignity, a discussion not an attack. "A kind answer turneth away wrath." While it is always wiser to prayerfully consider and measures our answers, both here and in every day life, none of us successful in doing so all of the time. Sometimes what you may be perceiving as an attack may just be someone's sincere effort to defend his/her faith. Nothing is ever gain by a vicious attack.

Turning the different cheek must be seen an 'progressed' technique, meant to be progressed, no longer became on or off like a swap. Assuming you persevere with the tenents, Christianity is the technique by which you improve unconditional love and forgiveness, even to the factor of being waiting to 'turn the cheek' to any offense given you. you are able to nevertheless try this in basic terms by coming up a loss of worry, even unto loss of life. whilst one is unafraid, one's strikes are free of inhibition, and such 'braveness' can not be altered by any journey, even loss of life.

I don't believe that is true. I've seen some pretty brutal questions, bu the answers are simply defensive. I'm Mormon (which is a Christan religion, by the way) and I always try to answer question diferentially, by try to correct unfair judgments or misinformation. There are exceptions with certain people, who choose a more angry approach, but for the most part it is people who are protecting something that they are passionate about.

Shucks, I guess they're only human. Anger is an impulse and sometimes it seems irresistable. Free will is a skill. You have to know yourself in order to exercise it. It requires that when you have an angry thought, you notice it. You notice that you feel angry and you don't choose to identify yourself with it. You follow the thought to its source, which is undoubtably some kind of fear of loss. Loss of face, loss of life, loss of control, whatever the case may be. Many times, when you see the source of your fear, you have to laugh, because most of what we fear losing, we never had to begin with. If you've gotten this far without acting out, chances are pretty good that the act of resisting that impulse has waked you up. You can't resist an impulse without being awake. Now you have a reason to be thankful to whatever made you mad, because being awake is such a precious gift. Nevertheless, you may now choose your actions free from stupidity. You can see why simply being saved does not take you all the way to awake. It's a skill you have to work on. Meditation helps, because it trains you to notice your thoughts.

I am not sure exactly what you are gettin at here... I do not feel that I have ever attacked anyone, I do not tolerate their beliefs, but I don't think I have attacked them. And what does that have anything to do with turning the other cheek?

As a religion, Jehovah's Witnesses certainly do "turn the other cheek". In fact, a Jehovah's Witness who insists on learning martial arts or carrying a firearm (except for use against animals, or targets) disqualifies himself from congregation privileges.

Jehovah's Witness believes bible principles to imply that a Christian who PLANS techniques for killing humans (even in so-called "self-defense") may expose himself to God-dishonoring bloodguilt if he does kill an attacker. Of course, Jehovah's Witnesses do not pretend that the Scriptures are explicit on this matter, and so they do not actually "discipline" that tiny fraction among Witnesses who do carry firearms for use against humans, or who do practice "martial arts".

(Matthew 5:39-45) I [Jesus] say to you: Do not resist him that is wicked; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other also to him. ...I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you; that you may prove yourselves sons of your Father who is in the heavens

I don't know about vicious, but, as far as Mormons are concerned, they don't want to discuss, they just want to diss. Some of us get a little tired of it.

First of all Catholics are Christians. I'm a Baptist. Secondly its because Christians are just as capable of being mean as anyone else is. We are flawed individuals. Only Jesus was perfect.

Christians are supposed to turn the other cheek but not all of them do. Their not perfect. Just forgiven.
