I just traded in my car for a 2004 X-Terra. I need to do a license plate transfer. I paid for everything at the dealership and they said they added that on but then they said all I need to do is register it.....what does that mean?

They may have transferred the plates on the vehicle over to the new car. That does not mean that the info was changed over to the new car.You will have to go to the DMV where you will now have to register(transfer) the info from the new car.DMV will know what you are talking about. You are taking the old plates from one car (old) to be registered to the next car(new) You will need the 'title', insurance card for new vehicle, proof of purchase called the 'Bill of Sale' and the amount to pay for the transfer,"Transfer Fees which should be less than $100.00 Do not drive your new vehicle until this has been done.I do not know all the rules as DMV changes from state to state
